Russian minister to visit Fiji chief

DIPLOMATIC eyebrows are being raised by the coming visit of the Russian foreign minister to the Pacific pariah state of Fiji, with concerns that Russia is engaging in what Australia last year labelled ''cheque-book diplomacy'' in the Pacific.

By Amelia Wade New Zealanders in a flood-ridden area of Fiji have been evacuated from their resort on Denarau Island by helicopter. The tourist complex built on an artificial set of islands was evacuated after growing concern for the area by officials.
